Paintings and Mixed Media

The artwork I create is not realistic; the work is not literal, but much content is in the work since the visuals relate to architectural elements, architectural cross sections and primitive totem forms.

Works are considered paintings or mixed media visuals; they are on canvas or gessoed rag papers. On gessoed canvas a sub-structure of acrylic mediums is built upon which oil and or acrylic paints are applied and other surface constructions are built.

Many thin layers of pigment are applied much like an intaglio or etching plate would be inked. Excess pigment is removed leaving residue color in the surface highs and lows. I draw into the images with graphite and colored pencils.

If additional construction is done, any combination of wood, stone, rag papers, fiber, gold leaf, beads and clay may be used.

I have the stretchers usually built by my framer who also helps with wood frames and dry mounting fabric for oversize visuals. Usually I gesso the surfaces myself, but occasionally a friend will help when time is short. I do not make any papers but use all ph neutral rag papers and boards.

I love doing my art. I am extremely grateful to have been able to do it again full-time since April of 1990. I do original visuals and also create custom work for residential and commercial placements.

NOTES:
Linda had received many other awards prior to her second post-graduate degree. She was one of seventeen pre-invited artists to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver, CO. Her works hang in private collections from Massachusetts to Florida to Colorado. Linda’s work can also be found in the corporate collections of Saks Fifth Avenue and Seaman-Patrick Paper Company.
